By Severin Roesen, ca. 1850. This is a stunning painting by Roesen, an American artist known for his abundant fruit and flower still lifes. Roesen's meticulous attention to detail and fine brushwork are present in all of his works and his subject matter never changed throughout his career. In fact, some of his works are almost near copies of the last with elements merely rearranged. This image, Still LIfe: Flowers and Fruit is on display at The Met in New York City.

In a world where there are rules to comply with, directions to follow and deadlines to be met, it's nothing short of liberating to work in a creative environment where I have complete and total artistic freedom. Nature walks and simply observing the world around me at my leisure, enables me to produce images that convey a sense of calm, beauty and joy.
