1899, by Frits Thaulow. A Norwegian painter, Thaulow was known for his remarkable paintings of rivers and bodies of water in northern France. Here we see the village of Picquigny, near Amiens on the Somme river. The viewer sees this painting from a down-river perspective and can enjoy the beautiful, realistic reflections and highlights. In the distance we see a couple strolling along the path at the edge of the village. Colorful houses line the river on one side, with trees, bushes and other vegetation on the right. A beautiful, classic painting from one of the great masters.
